Introduction of FFXIV Mining

In my opinion, mining(Gathering skill) seem to be the easiest compare to blacksmith, armorer, culinary and fishing that i have tried so far.

Normally, mining point can be shared with other miners that are at the same point and each miner will have 6 mining chances for mining(UPDATE: The number of chances seem to be varies like in guild leves grade 2 mining point gives 6 chances for a lv 9 miner but when out of duty, only 4 chances are given... ^^ UPDATE AGAIN: lv 10 miner also get 4 chances only ~). There is one type of mining point call "nearly exhausted grade X mineral deposit" and it will DEPLETE after one of the miner have completed the last mining chances. The rest of the miner at the same point will be force to stop and the mining point will disappear.

Let me start introduce the "mini game" of mining...

1. Mostly we will start with the "Start frame" in the picture below. You will need to slide the bar up or down to select which part of the exposed ore to aim. I suspecting that the aim will affect the type of items you will get at the end. I hope someone will come out with some statistic on this soon! Hahaa!

Start frame:

2. Hit enter to fix your aim and you will see one message saying "You set your sights on an area". It will then change to the so call "Strike Frame". (my own naming haha)

Strike frame:

3. In this frame, you will see a reticule with a orange circle(pulsing sonar like) inside. This orange circle will determine the strength of your character is using to hit on the mining point. There is also a bar call with a label "remainder" under it. This bar will tell you how many more tries you can strike in this first try. It will decrease by a percentage depend on the strength you used to hit on that spot.

Following at the different type of possible outcome after you have hit strike.
You feel nothing promising. (Try to increase or decrease the strength of striking it)
You feel something promising. (Try to decrease the strength of striking slightly)
You are getting farther from the mark. (This show that you have either strike it too hard or too soft from your previous strike)
You are close to something, but cannot yet extract it. (Try to maintain the same strength)
You are getting closer to the mark. (Try to decrease the strength of striking slightly)
You lost sight of what felt like a "lost material". (This happen when the remainder bar reduced to zero)
You are unable to obtain anything. (This happen when the remainder bar reduced to zero)
You dig up "material". (This shows that you have successful dig out the items)

There is still some missing possible outcome i will add it in next time! =D

As i have said, mining is the easier gathering skill compare to crafting. Just make sure that you get all the guild leves quests from the city and go to the first starting town to start the quest. For me, i have tried on 2 character and both miner class will reach lv 6 - 7 after completing all the guild leves.

That's all of my introduction!! =D Have a nice mining day~

Target Strength

Just like normal MMORPG, the target strength for the creatures are define beside the target with a small icon.

Blue: Easy Prey
Green: Decent Challenge
Yellow: Even match
Orange: Tough
Red: Very Tough

I added some screenshots to show how is it like in-game.

Small blue indicate that it is an easy prey!

The small red shield like icon show that it is a Very Tough!!

Even though it is very tough, sometime you will be able to kill it if you are in luck!! =D

Problem with patching open beta client! Stuck! Stuck! Stuck!

Not sure everybody having this issue when patching the open beta client! It will always stuck in like 94.6% or 94.8% zzz...

For people who still don't know what to do with this, try this following method.

You will need a torrent software(any type). I am using bittorrent.

1. Go to your own folder >My Documents >My Games >FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version >downloads >ffxiv-beta (my OS is Win XP not sure if it is the same for all OS)

2. You will see 2 folder "bca2a8ae" and "d96437e6".

Select "bca2a8ae" if the patch is for boot software and select "d96437e6" if the patch is for the game client software.

How to know which software is the patch for:
You can differentiate but looking at the background colour of the patcher of FFXIV program - Red for Boot Software and Blue for game client software.

3. After the selection, you will see METAINFO folder and PATCH folder. Go into the METAINFO folder.

4. Inside the folder you will find the torrent file here and in the format of DYYYY.MM.DD.XXXX torrent. Look for the correct torrent and just double click on it to start the downloading(if you already have the torrent program). You can use the above methods for both type of software and it is faster than using the original(that's how i feel haha).

5. After the downloading, just copy the downloaded version and paste it into the PATCH folder instead of the METAINFO folder.

6. Relaunch your FFXIV beta program and it will start patching again!! =D

That's all i have!!

First Night in FFXIV ~ Limsa Lominsa ~ World Wutai

Woot~ the first night playing in Open beta of FFXIV but i having some issue. Somehow that i can't play the game in full screen and only in windowed mode. Sad m(T_Tm)

At least i still able to login and create my very first character, named Simi Oei. Simi Oei started her life in Limsa Lominsa (World: Wutai). Starting job is Pugilist and race is Dunesfolk Female Lalafell. Following is a picture of my first character.

There is a lot of selection to be done when come to customise your very character. The most interesting is the highlighting of the hair. Did you see the hair of my character? That is so cool~ and even the starting equipment looks very cool too~ I love it man~ I LOVING IT~

The only problem is the place is very crowded with all the new beta testers (newbies town). The ratio of OB tester and creatures i guess it is about 100:1. Hahaaa yea 100:1 the moment you see the respawn of the creature, you will see all the white dots in your radar will be charging towards that beast~ hahaa.

In the very first night, I had also experienced my first death in the game. Without knowing, what is level of each creatures i just randomly attack and got killed by one of the creatures. I took a screenshot of my first death and it looks realli interesting~

There are also a lot of new things to learn and understand i think i will try to compile it when i can...

Stay tune~ ^^

Final Fantasy Open Beta on 1st Sept

I have waited for at least 10 months since the release of the news of final fantasy XIV(ffxiv) is coming out!! Too bad i have no chance in testing the game during closed beta but at least i can still get a glimpse of the game in the open beta.

Yea right! The open beta is available now at here. You will need to register a square enix account here. For registration, country of residence are required for future account payment for the game. Sadly, some countries are not in the list of square enix registration list e.g. Singapore, Malaysia etc... This making a lot of people having difficulties and confusion in creating accounts.

For me, i have created my account as NA account.

At the moment, i am still waiting for the download of the client to be completed..... 99.9% ..... at the rate of 100-1k bytes/sec. OMG .... SO SLOW! You can download the client using here.

I really hope that i can get it tested tonight before i going to malacca. If not, i don't think i gonna enjoy my trip. =D
